Not only is Alabama’s met coal some of the finest in the world, but Alabama is unique in the world in having this resource located so close to a major exporting port. The closest comparison is in Australia – truly on the other side of the world from our largest customers and users.
In partnership with our customers and the State of Alabama, the Port will invest over $200 million in capital improvements at McDuffie Coal Terminal. From barge unloaders to new stacker reclaimers and deeper berths, this partnership and these investments will double the terminal’s capacity.
